Project Description

My competition entry for the Solomon R. Guggenheim competition in Helsinki, Finland.

The brief asked for an “inspiring use of timber”, as the country produces 6% of the world’s timber. I used this clue to come up with an architecturally abstracted forest. The Finns also created glued-laminated timber and my concept utilized their finding.

What would have been an engaging work of craftsmanship will now remain a concept, as this project was not selected. I will be curious to see how the winner’s project evolves and if it evokes an “inspiring use of timber.”

At any rate, it was a great project to design, and has led me to take a greater interest in museum design. There are many more to design yet…
