Schluter Systems has combined its waterproof Kerdi-Board panels with a selection of other waterproofing and tile installation products to form its new Kerdi-Board Kit. According to the manufacturer, the kit includes everything an installer needs to waterproof walls around an acrylic shower base or standard tub surround before tile installation.
The kit includes eight pieces of 1/2-inch thick, 48” x 38” Kerdi-Board waterproof building panels. These panels can be screwed directly onto wall studs, and can easily be cut to fit any wall space up to 101 square feet. The panels are lightweight, do not generate dust when cut, and replace the need for gypsum or cement board on the shower walls.
Once the boards are installed on and around the surface that will be tiled, the seams and screw penetrations are waterproofed with a 5” Kerdi-Band waterproof membrane, also included. The membrane is installed using thin-set mortar. From there, tiles can be installed directly on the Kerdi-Board using thin-set mortar.
The kit also includes two tubes of KERDI-FIX sealing and bonding compound, which can create a waterproof seal around the shower base or tub flange. A 4 1/2-inch mixing valve seal, 3/4-inch pipe seal and 1/2-inch pipe seal are also included.
