THE LATEST RELEASE FROM BUILDER MT aims to help home builders run their day-to-day sales, purchasing, and jobsite operations more effectively.

The new version, Builder MT Workflow Management Suite 4.0 for Timberline Office, began shipping in April.

The real benefit of 4.0 is role-based processing. Supers can customize toolbars to run only their activities—tasks like scheduling and vendor notification—as can project managers, purchasing people, and financial employees.

Other process-oriented features:

  • TBD supplier. In the past, builders could not change a vendor in the system midstream. Now, they can assign a “To Be Determined” status to a task and name a supplier later.
  • Workflow capabilities. Once a contract is approved, work orders can be e-mailed to the purchasing department and then out to suppliers. If a contract is rejected, it gets routed back to the sales manager. Task lists can also be downloaded on a Blackberry for supers to approve for payment.
  • Sales and profit analysis. When a contract is approved, accounting gets the sales price, budget, and purchase order amount by plan, elevation, and option. Version 4.0 then issues reports that run a job costing analysis.
