The BIG BUILDER study on supply chain and purchasing trends is based on a survey sent to a sample group of 1,800 individuals representing 9,950 executives known to be working for the top 100 U.S. home builders and firms building a minimum of 100 homes in the past year.
The results are based on 546 responses—a 30 percent response rate—via mail collected during August through mid-September of 2003. Only 409 who confirmed their firms were involved in building 100 or more homes in 2003 were included in the final tabulations. A breakout of respondents is reflected in the following profile:
The study was commissioned by Big Builder magazine and conducted by Readex, a nationally recognized research company based in Stillwater, Minn. The resulting margin of error is +/- 4.7 percent at the 95 percent confidence level. For more information on the study, contact Big Builder’s editor Wyatt Kash at wkash@hanleywood.com.
