HiveASMBLED

Houston-based HiveASMBLED has started a new 3D-constructed residential community in Marfa, Texas. Lumen Villas, developed in collaboration with Marfa Optimists with architecture by DeMaria Design, will feature nine luxury 3D-printed villas ranging from 1,500 to 1,860 square feet.

With the first home already sold and slated for completion this month, the full development is expected to be completed in 2026.

“HiveASMBLD’s presence in Marfa is catering to a need that’s currently starved due to the lack of affordability that comes with developing and purchasing homes,” says Robert Spiegel, HiveASMBLD, chief development officer.

“HiveASMBLD is demonstrating how innovative technology can create durable, energy-efficient homes faster and at lower cost than traditional methods. These nine homes are designed not only to expand housing options in Marfa, but also to serve as a model for how advanced construction methods can help address the broader affordability crisis across Texas and the U.S.”

Zuri Gardens Recently Started

HiveASMBLD recently broke ground on Zuri Gardens, an affordable housing development in Houston. As the second major project for the 3D build company, Lumen Villas will feature eco-friendly materials, customizable layouts, and energy-efficiency across the 54,000-square-foot development.

The villas’ plans start with two bedrooms, two bathrooms up to three bedrooms and two-and-a-half bathrooms. Because of Marfa’s remote location, construction costs are high, the firm says. The Lumen Villas’ cutting-edge construction technology aims to provide a solution, and a new pathway with pricing starting in the mid $300,000s.

“At the lower price points, the local market reflects a common trend we see elsewhere – a cheap home is often a cheaply built home. HiveASMBLD is focused only on building high-quality homes that will last, withstand harsh weather, and require less maintenance than traditional construction methods,” says Ethan Wong, inventor and co-CEO of HiveASMBLD.

“Our design build features, including mass walls paired with modern, high-efficiency HVAC systems and Energy Star–rated appliances, mean the cost of ownership goes beyond the purchase price, resulting in lower monthly operating costs, fewer maintenance demands, and a home that’s built to perform sustainably for decades.”
