Designer Dan Sater often tries to dissuade clients from including a formal dining room if they’re not going to use it often. A good alternative: these open dining rooms that occupy the space where a breakfast nook usually goes and provide extra space. Let the holiday feast begin!

Visitors or older children will love the secluded suite, loft, and balcony upstairs. Downstairs, the open layout brings everyone together in the spacious kitchen, which flows seamlessly into the great room and dining area, and then out to the loggia. The master suite, easy to reach on this level, treats homeowners to a luxurious retreat with a walk-in shower and large tub. The roomy guest suite in front opens to a courtyard, giving extra privacy to family or friends. See more images, information, and the floor plans.

Clean lines, a low-pitched tile roof, and Bermuda shutters create a contemporary exterior with a bit of West Indies style. The one-story layout makes it easy to get around, especially when carrying groceries from the three-car garage to the kitchen through the mudroom. A long back wall of sliding glass doors opens up the great room and dining area to the “Florida Room,” an air-conditioned space that encourages lounging in any season. An outdoor kitchen makes the cabana a fun hangout when the weather is nice. In the kitchen, a dry bar can house a wine refrigerator, so it’s easy to grab a bottle and open a glass for sharing with friends at the island. See more images, information, and the floor plans.
With careful planning, this one-story home manages to fit four bedrooms and abundant amenities into a narrow 45-foot width. The dining and great rooms open almost completely to the outdoor entertaining areas for seamless indoor-outdoor flow. The kitchen’s large island and bar facilitate relaxed get-togethers. In the master suite, two walk-in closets and a spa-like bathroom (seriously, check out that shower!) create a luxurious atmosphere for owners. One of the other bedrooms includes a private bathroom, suiting it for a guest or older child. See more images, information, and the floor plans.
Each of the three bedroom suites enjoys a secluded location and a private bathroom with a walk-in shower, while the master suite boasts a spa-like retreat. A study provides a serene space for work or hobbies. Company coming over? They can fix a drink at the wet bar while owners put out appetizers on the big island. Step outside to keep the party going on the veranda, where an outdoor kitchen stands ready for grilling. Other special features include a bright sitting nook in the master suite, the spacious laundry room, and decorative ceiling treatments through the ultra-open layout.
