NAHB Webinar Helps Clear the Air on Legal Marijuana

The free "Dazed and Confused" webinar will help employers determine the impact legal marijuna use may have on workplace policies.

1 MIN READ

Medical marijuana use is legal in 29 states, the District of Columbia, Guam, and Puerto Rico. In addition, nine states and the District of Columbia allow for the recreational use of marijuana. These new laws present unique challenges for employers, who now must consider how legalized marijuana use could impact their workplace policies.

To help address the issues associated with legalized marijuana, the NAHB is offering a new on-demand webinar titled “Dazed and Confused: The Buzz Surrounding Legalized Marijuana in the Home Building Industry.” The webinar supplements “A Builder’s Guidebook: Marijuana in the Home Building Industry,” which was issued late last year.

The free webinar describes the differences between state and federal laws—including the responsibilities under OSHA and the General Duty Clause—and examines various ways the legalization of marijuana can impact the home building industry.

Topics discussed include:

  • Laws regarding medical marijuana use and implications for “safety sensitive” jobs
  • Best practices for workplace drug policies and testing procedures
  • Training essentials for managers
  • Actions to take when an employee tests positive for drug use
  • Liability issues for employers who terminate employees for medical marijuana use.

The webinar is available via the Construction Liability Resources page on nahb.org within the Trending Now section.
