When the heads of Callaway Woodworks talk about saunas, they constantly stress how their products stand out. “Although we do have standard stuff, we do a lot of custom work,” says Chip Schilling, COO. “We’re always looking to do things differently.” The company’s most popular products include distinctively shaped outdoor barrel saunas and saunas that combine both dry heat—think hot rocks and a ladle—with steam or shower rooms. Other offerings include modular saunas with pitched roofs, barrel hot tubs, and hot tubs that are deep enough for therapy or exercise.
The thick-walled products are made out of clear heart Western red cedar, basswood, and redwood. Shipped in knocked-down form, they come with illustrated installation instructions. For custom orders, size is only limited by the availability of material, the maker says.
