Mansion Mayhem

1 MIN READ

By Matthew Power. The town of Duck, N.C., has raised the ire of local builders and their affluent clients, by enacting a six-month ban on new homes with more than six bedrooms. The local Outer Banks HBA rejects the ban and may seek a temporary restraining order to prevent it. Chapter president Mark Martin asserts that the town has no relevant science to back up the decision, saying “Large homes are a trend, but right now they are not a crisis.” In the two days immediately prior to the ban on July 15, local property owners rushed to obtain permits. About 20 permits for gigantic homes were issued–far more than the normal development pace.
