  • DOE Enforces Energy Star Standards: LG Electronics, in an agreement with the U.S. Department of Energy, has suspended 10 of its French Door refrigerator models from the Energy Star program, due to concerns over energy usage measurements and the test procedures used to evaluate the products.   • Comment on LEED for Neighborhoods: On Nov. 17, 2008, the U.S. Green Building Council (USGBC) opened the first public comment period for LEED for Neighborhood Development, the first national certification system for green neighborhood design and development. The public comment period will continue through Jan. 5, 2009. LEED for Neighborhood Development integrates principles of smart growth, new urbanism, and green building, and provides a method for evaluating projects based on criteria relating to smart location, linkage to the larger community, neighborhood pattern and design, and green construction and technology. The program has been in pilot testing since early 2007. To view the LEED for Neighborhood Development draft document and submit comments, visit the USGBC’s Web site.
