During October and November 2009, power tool manufacturer DEWALT Industrial Tool Co. will collect rechargeable power tool battery packs for recycling through its 82 service centers nationwide. DEWALT is working with Rechargeable Battery Recycling Corp.’s (RBRC) Call2Recycle battery recycling program to encourage power tool users to turn in their depleted nickel-cadmium (NiCd), nickel-metal hydride (NiMH), and lithium-ion (Li-ion) batteries.
The RBRC is a nonprofit public service organization committed to recycling used rechargeable batteries and cell phones to prevent their entering the country’s solid waste stream and contaminating natural resources with the toxic chemicals and metals they contain. Since the Call2Recycle program’s 1994 initiation, collections of rechargeable batteries and cell phones have exceeded 50 million pounds, RBRC claims.
Those wishing to recycle their used battery packs should simply drop them into the designated RBRC recycling bin at their local DEWALT service center. As a reward for this environmentally friendly choice, battery recyclers will receive a $10 discount on their next DEWALT battery purchase.To find a DEWALT Service Center, visit the company’s online locator.
