Instead of delivering a standard suburban colonial with a façade dominated by an expansive garage, Maine-based architecture firm GO Logic chose to minimize the visual impact of the garage door on its Wellesley, Mass., residence. The firm, with help from builder Eco Structures, opted for a tandem configuration, orienting one single-width garage door toward the street and one separate door toward the home’s backyard.

On the street side, the home’s white, clapboard siding and rhythmic window layout contrast with the reclaimed barn board siding that delineates the garage entrance, but camouflages the street-facing door. The garage face was also recessed, and the gabled second-story volume was shifted over to create a covered entry. A cobbled drive with a two-track extension provides car access to the door around back.
