BHA Offers New Basement Egress Certification

Stricter enforcement of basement egress codes calls for specialists

1 MIN READ

Though basement egress codes have been in effect for roughly 20 years, strict enforcement has only come about relatively recently, over the last several years.

As the compliance searchlight grows brighter, the Basement Health Association (BHA) is offering contractors a new program to become a Certified Egress Specialist (CES).

There will be two opportunities to take the test:

  • October 7, 2014 at the Tropicana in Atlantic City, N.J. during BHA’s fall regional seminar
  • February 3-6, 2015 in Las Vegas, Nev. during BHA’s annual meeting

Testing for the CES requires contractors to demonstrate knowledge of industry codes, standards and ethics, as well as OSHA safety standards for trenching, excavation and protective equipment.
The application fee is $500 and comes with a study guide.
