There is no lack of talent or craftsmanship at the highest end of the housing market, if the entries in the 2008 Custom Home Design Awards are any indication. Nearly 500 entries competed for this year’s honors, judged by an independent panel of distinguished custom home professionals. They applied their considerable expertise in designing and building fine houses to single out the best of the best—22 of the finest custom home projects in the country. You will find 19 of the winning projects in the special 26-page feature that follows, and three more projects in the accompanying supplement, CUSTOM HOME OUTDOORS.
Serving on this year’s jury were Doug Ford of D.D. Ford Construction, a custom builder in Santa Barbara, Calif.; Joe McKinstry of Joseph McKinstry Construction, a custom builder in Seattle; Bernard Wharton, AIA, of Shope Reno Wharton Architecture, Greenwich, Conn.; and Peter Zimmerman, AIA, of Peter Zimmerman Architects, Berwyn, Pa. We thank them for the generous gift of their time, expertise, and care in judging the 2008 Custom Home Design Awards.
