Anatomy of a Window

1 MIN READ

To the untrained eye, high-performance windows may not look very different from their predeces-sors. A closer look reveals advanced technology that enables serious and measurable energy efficiency while still allowing windows to provide views, ventilation, some heat gain, and natural daylight.

1 Advanced Frames New composite materials maintain their shape in extreme climate conditions to retain and support the window’s thermal values. They also won’t rot or need painting.

2 Spacer Age Warm-edge spacers made from one-piece, non-conductive material are set between the panes of glass to retard thermal transfer and mitigate condensation.

3 Film Study Clear, low-emissivity coatings applied to the glass reflect infrared ultraviolet light to block heat transfer and protect interior fabrics from fading.
