Severe Housing Cost Burdens Found in Every State

1 MIN READ

For every 100 extremely low-income renters in America—those making no more than 30% of their area’s median income (AMI)—there are only 30 affordable rental units available, nearly half of which are occupied by those earning more than the 30% AMI threshold. Such are the findings of a recent report by the National Low Income Housing Coalition, which found that severe housing cost burdens—defined as when a household has to spend more than 50% of its income on housing—are a significant problem across all 50 states.

Affordable Housing Finance, Builder’s sister publication, has the full story on the report’s findings.
