Builders have been hearing for years about the rise in popularity of energy-efficient net-zero houses that generate as much electricity as they consume. The problem is that these types of homes require special training and education, something many busy builders don’t have time for.
A new online course starting March 14 from the Northeast Sustainable Energy Association is designed to help builders learn everything they need to know about net-zero construction in just 10 weeks. Participants will examine the key components of a zero net energy home – and even design one as their capstone project.
Led by energy engineer Marc Rosenbaum, the $895 course will cover key pitfalls to avoid and provide a comprehensive understanding of all of the key components of a zero net energy home–envelope, systems, and renewables–and how they fit together. It will also include numerical guidelines on sizing peak heat loss, glazing amounts, and solar electric systems that will empower you to confidently design a zero net energy home.
