When designing their dream vacation home in Maui, clients Shawn and Shelley wanted a home that brought the outdoors in. Portland, Ore.-based firm Tiny Heirloom designed a luxurious, 400-square-foot tiny home for the vacationers with views of the ocean.

The Iki Hau’oli Hale, which means Tiny, Happy Home, focuses on blending indoor and outdoor spaces. Two retractable glass walls can disappear to connect the living room and master bedrooms to the deck, which the couple uses for entertaining. The deck also features a barbecue and seating.

The client, who is a chef, also wanted a large luxurious kitchen even in a small space, so the builder included a full-size refrigerator, 19 feet of countertop space, and a full-size stove with five gas burners that also acts as an island with storage and countertop seating.

In the master bedroom, a Murphy bed folds up to create 100-square-feet of floor space, which the homeowners use as a private meditation area and indoor yoga studio. The tiny home even packs in a second full bedroom for guests. A set of retractable accordion stairs pull down from a panel in the ceiling of the kitchen to access a 75-square-foot guest loft, which features a full-size bed.

The home was built in 2016 for $250,000.
