The Michigan Association of Home Builders filed a lawsuit earlier this year to stop the enforcement of new state-mandated energy rules for new and remodeled homes. The new rules would require builders to add insulation in basements and exterior walls, and install more efficient windows and furnaces. Builders oppose the rules because they estimate the new requirements could add up to $4,000 to the cost of a 1,000-square-foot home. At press time, Ingham County Circuit Judge Joyce Dragonchuck issued a preliminary injunction in response to the lawsuit. No trial date was set.
