The Lago Mar master-planned community in Texas City, Texas, hosted a sneak preview event for its upcoming 12-acre Crystal Lagoons amenity for residents, builder partners, local officials, and other invitees on May 30. Attendees were able to sit on the beach and swim on the lagoon, with social distancing precautions in place for the safety of residents and staff.

Lago Mar’s Crystal Lagoons amenity is approximately six times larger than Land Tejas’s first Crystal Lagoons amenity, which opened in 2018 in the Balmoral community in Humble, Texas, and the largest in the nation by length, with over a mile of beachfront.

“It was a beautiful day all around, and we were very excited for so many of our Lago Mar residents to be able to enjoy this world-class amenity,” says Uri Man, executive vice president for Land Tejas. “With the white sand beaches, crystal clear water, and the amazing water shows featured at Saturday’s event, everyone was able to experience what we call the ‘lagoon life’ all while maintaining respectful distances.”

The amenity will serve as the anchor feature of a 100-acre mixed-use entertainment district at the Lago Mar entrance, currently under construction. Future development phases are expected to add hotels, condos, retail, dining, and a pay-for-access beach club offering public access beaches on the lagoon. This section will contain a cabana pool, a two-story swim-up bar on an island, a kids’ beach, a floating obstacle course, and kayaks, paddleboats, and small sailboats for rent. A beachfront event lawn is also in progress.

“Lago Mar is truly a special place and the best way to join in the excitement is to visit one of our great new home builders today,” Man adds. “We are also finalizing our plans for the retail and pay-for-access portions of the lagoon. We are in talks with several commercial development companies that plan to develop hotels and multifamily condominiums around the lagoon with direct views of the crystal clear water. There are also approximately 300,000 square feet of planned mixed-use development, including restaurants, bars, entertainment, and shops that will line the planned waterfront boardwalk promenade. Lago Mar is primed to become Houston’s new waterfront destination.”

The Lago Mar community will contain approximately 4,400 homes across 2,033 acres at full build-out. New homes are available from 15 builders, priced from the $200,000s to the $500,000s. Amenities include a residents-only portion of the lagoon and clubhouse, as well as a resort pool, a workout facility, a playground, and an alternative transportation path for golf carts and electric bikes.
