Harrison Square at U Street Metro sits in an area of Washington that has known despair and destitution but now abounds with prosperity. Before the condos were completed, drug dealers and poverty plagued the area. “We wanted to be a part of the resurgence that was happening in this area of the U Street corridor in the District,” says Julie Dillon, vice president of sales and marketing for Eakin Youngentob Associates. First-time home buyers and empty-nesters are snatching up these new townhomes. The most popular floor plan in the project is the Sheridan, which has the kitchen in the front and a large living room with a deck off of it in the back. Buyers were willing to for-go a tandem parking space in favor of a third bedroom or recreation room. The site itself offered challenges. After the former building was demolished, it was back-filled into its own basement, requiring the site to be stabilized before moving forward.
