Summer Architecture Events at the Haystack Mountain School

1 MIN READ

About twenty miles southeast of where I live, lying between Maine’s Penobscot Bay and the open Atlantic, is Deer Isle. It’s a beautiful place to visit during the summer. Especially this summer, when the island’s most famous collection of buildings, Edward Larrabee Barnes’ campus for the Haystack Mountain School of Crafts, a winner of the AIA 25 Year Award, celebrates its 50th anniversary. To mark the occasion, the school will present an exhibition of drawings, models, and written work by noted architects on the impact of the rustic modernist masterpiece on their own work. The show opened July 3 and will remain open until October 15. Haystack’s annual Summer Conference (July 10-14) will focus on architecture in general and the Haystack campus in particular. If you plan to be on the coast of Maine this summer, I recommend a visit.
