Trend Lines: What’s New

Spectacular Spectrum Designed around the concept of chromatherapy, Whitehaus Collection’s new Nymphaea lavatory basin changes color with the temperature of water. The clear crystal glass basin is available in six embossed patterns. Each color in the shifting repertoire has a unique chromatherapeutic connotation: Blue represents relaxation; purple conveys tranquility; green promotes stability and harmony; yellow signifies hope; orange fuels creativity and ambition; and red stimulates and energizes. Light-emitting diodes (LEDs) produce the color changes in response to water temperature. The basin requires a 5-volt outlet or transformer connection for its light source, but consumes minimal energy, says the maker. The LEDs are guaranteed for the life of the basin.

Whitehaus says the Nymphaea can be installed by any plumber and that no advanced technical knowledge is required. Operational settings can be programmed during installation to produce color changes without water. Most basins are available in smooth, glossy, rough, or opaque finishes. 800.527.6690. www.whitehauscollection.com.

No Bugs allowed Termites can pass through gaps or cracks as small as 1/32 inch, and all concrete eventually settles and cracks over time, allowing termites the opportunity to invade a home. Syngenta’s newly introduced Impasse Termite System is designed to bar that entry. Impasse is a double-layered polymer sheet with a long-lasting termiticide between its layers. It is installed by the builder’s pest management trade before a home’s concrete slab is poured.

The Impasse barrier sheet is spread over the entire footprint of a residence and is heat-sealed at the seams; Impasse boots are then placed around plumbing and electrical penetrations and are heat-sealed to the barrier. Once the concrete slab is poured, the barrier sheet, boots, and termiticide will continue to protect the home from termite invasion through the slab even if it cracks and settles over time.

Because the insecticide Lambdacyhalothrin is sandwiched between the barrier sheet layers, it will protect against invasion even if termites chew through the layers. And because it is locked in, opportunities for leaching into the soil are reduced, minimizing environmental impact, the maker says.

A 10-year transferable re-treatment and damage repair warranty is included with the Impasse system. 866.796.4368. www.impasse.com.
