Much like Uber transformed the taxi business, Airbnb, an online marketplace that allows people to rent out their homes or apartments, has done the same for the rental market. The company makes a fee for each booking; it also offers additional revenue streams to owners, allowing for flexibility in living conditions and mortgages.

For the single-family industry, it’s not inconceivable that the Airbnb concept could open up new designs in which rental units could be built into homes for buyers who would like an extra source of income.
