Canadian Builder Enters the Texas Market

Empire Continental Land brings MHI and Meritage veterans aboard.

For the past four years, Canadian developer and home builder Empire Continental Land has been developing master-planned and in-fill communities in both Houston and Austin.

Now, Empire, which has built and developed 10,000 new homes and condominiums over the past 20 years in Canada, is launching a U.S. home building division. Its first community will be in Northwest Houston, where it plans to build approximately 300 new homes as part of the 600-acre Dellrose community located in Cypress, Texas.

Empire hired James Miller as division president. He will responsible for the start-up of the home building division in Texas. A native Houstonian, Miller has spent the majority of his career in home building with 26 of his 28 years with McGuyer Homebuilders, Inc. (MHI).

Miller served as as the MHI’s region president for more than 12 years and managed an operation with annual gross revenues of over $200 million. He was responsible for all aspects of the home building process including construction, sales, purchasing, marketing, and architecture, according to Empire.

Carl “Wade” Bradow, Jr. will serve as Empire’s division executive vice president. He has more than 26 years of experience within the home building and real estate industry having most recently served in the executive position of division president of land acquisition at MHI. His experience includes managing land acquisition and various land development projects of all sizes across Texas. In addition, Bradow has been responsible for long-term strategic planning, investment decision evaluations and the securing of financing.

John S. Arditi, CPA, who has more than 25 years of home building experience, joins as Empire controller. He was most recently with Meritage Homes Corporation in Houston. Previously, he worked for more than 20 years at Lennar Corp., where he was responsible for all aspects of the finance division including strategy, reporting, budgeting, and forecasting along with mergers, acquisitions, software system conversions, taxation and audits.
