Christopher Thomson does not simply shape steel, copper, and bronze into architectural accents and components. “I approach each project differently,” he says, “striving to find its proper relationship to the customer, the environment, and work that already exists.” In his studio at Christopher Thomson Ironworks, Thomson hammers, stretches, and bends his medium in the hand-forging technique into shapes that are sometimes specified by an architect or client and sometimes the work of his imagination. “I like both situations,” he says.
His designs range from door pulls to window grilles, railings, and architectural gates. Currently, Thomson’s work is centered around custom-designed lighting pieces. Four available finishes are hand-applied after each piece is shaped, buffed, and straightened. 505.421.2645. www.christhomsoniron.com.Circle 185
