AIA Seattle’s FutureShack program showcases local, innovative approaches to residential design, awarding projects that “represent the future of home design not only for their own attributes, but how they fit into the overall character of our neighborhoods,” according to a recent press release.
So I was pleased to see that this year’s jury will feature an architect I’ve written about in residential architect‘s shelter lab section, Michael Fifield, FAIA. Michael teaches at the University of Oregon, and has long explored the intersection of land use issues, public policy, and residential architecture. The little live-work studio he did that I wrote about in October 2009 remains one of my favorite projects. And another FutureShack juror, Mary Johnston, FAIA, co-designed a house my co-worker Shelley Hutchins wrote about in RA’s July 2008 issue.
