The 2006 Directory of Accessible Building Products simplifies product selection for builders, remodelers, and their customers.

The NAHB research center has released the 16th edition of the Directory of Accessible Building Products (DABP) to assist the home building industry in meeting the housing needs of older adults and people with special physical needs.

Since its debut, the DABP has become the premier industry resource for builders and remodelers searching for products to achieve maximum accessibility value and meet their clients’ needs. The directory features useful information on nearly 200 commercially available products and is designed to be a one-stop resource for addressing accessibility needs in residences.

The DABP also provides the building industry with necessary product information for aging-in-place and universal design needs, allowing home buyers and homeowners to live comfortably, safely, and independently in their own homes for as long as possible, regardless of income or ability level.

This year the directory focuses on kitchens and bathrooms, including appliances, fixtures, cabinets, and faucets. Other features include information on home automation, climate control products, doors, ramps, stair lifts, and accessible floor plans.

“The Directory of Accessible Building Products is a powerful resource for building professionals as they strive to meet the growing demand for more-functional and -livable housing options,” says NAHB Research Center president Michael Luzier. “Given our nation’s aging population, the home building industry needs a greater understanding of how to meet the specialized needs of this evolving market segment, making the DABP a must-have reference for all builders and remodelers.”

The DABP is available online, through the Research Center’s bookstore (www.nahbrc.org/bookstore), or by calling 800-638-8556. There is no charge, only a $6.50 shipping and handling fee. Manufacturers interested in listing products in the 2007 directory and certified aging-in-place specialist (CAPS) professionals needing multiple copies should contact Pamela Eggleston, directory manager, at 800-638-8556, ext. 6215, or peggleston@nahbrc.org.
