Clayton, a Berkshire Hathaway company, said Thursday it has won the 2017 Manufactured Housing Institute’s Manufacturer of the Year Award.

The award was announced at MHI’s 2017 National Congress and Expo for Manufactured and Modular Housing on May 3 in Las Vegas. MHI is the national trade organization for the factory-built housing industry. Its membership includes builders, home retailers, community owners, suppliers and 50 affiliated state organizations.

In 2016 Clayton started a new home transport operation, Clayton Connect, and began upgrading its home building facilities with new advanced equipment and technology to make the building process even more efficient.

“Last year was a big year for us. We delivered over 42,000 homes that accounted for five percent of American housing,” said Clayton President of Manufacturing Keith Holdbrooks.. “Our homes are an essential part of solving affordable housing across the country, where the average new home sold with land is currently over $380,000*.”

Clayton home building group operates 39 home building facilities nationwide and employs more than 10,000 team members. Currently, 37 of its home building facilities have achieved the ISO 14001 registration, a display of the company’s commitment to environmentally conscious building processes. As the company grows, each new home building facility will also go through the registration process.
