By Christina B. Farnsworth. An in-city infill project, this custom home fits neatly in its mature landscape on what was an abandoned 1/2-acre site nestled among a busy Dallas thoroughfare, a meandering creek, and a local park in a neighborhood of ’60s ranch houses.
The 3,450-square-foot home borrows its material vernacular from nearby ranch houses but gives these materials a new twist in a thoroughly contemporary setting.
Translucent glass defines the home’s entry, bringing light indoors while maintaining privacy. Large industrial-style windows thinly divide the living space from the woods outside along Royal Branch creek. The fireplace, with its clean pale masonry surround and striated detailing, is illuminated by a skylight adding to its sculptural feel.

The kitchen is blond with sleek, flush panel cabinet doors and unobtrusive knobs. A broad peninsula cloaked in stone separates kitchen and family room. Outside, a peninsula deck juts like a pier towards the creek, connecting nature and nurture, solitude within the urban fray.
