One surefire way to add traditional curb appeal? Add arches. Designer Dan Sater uses them to draw your gaze to entryways and porches, while de-emphasizing garages.

Charleston Vibe for a Narrow Lot

This narrow-lot home displays two levels of graceful porches and a contemporary open layout. Tucked away in back, the garage doesn’t interfere with the striking curb appeal of the front and side elevations. Inside, the great room flows into the dining room, where two sets of French doors open this area to fresh breezes. A generous island anchors the kitchen, with a walk-in pantry at hand. An elevator makes it easy to get upstairs. See more images, information, and the floor plan.

Indoor and Outdoor Entertaining

Luxurious yet practical, this Mediterranean home makes an elegant empty nest with room for guests. On the back loggia, there’s room for relaxed outdoor parties with an outdoor kitchen for grilling and a fireplace to warm up cool evenings. The inside kitchen serves as another entertaining center with two islands, two sinks, and a large walk-in pantry. The master suite invites owners to relax in the grand private bathroom, where a walk-in shower sits behind the centerpiece tub, and each partner enjoys a private vanity. This side-courtyard layout provides plenty of space for a pool and outdoor living. From the great room, three sets of French doors open to the covered porch and sundeck. Upstairs, another balcony wraps along the side of the house and is accessed from two of the three bedrooms, including the luxurious master suite (check out that bay window in the bathroom!). The bonus studio above the garage treats visitors to a morning kitchen, private bath, and walk-in closet. The exterior here is modified with brick. See more images, information, and the floor plan.

Three Sets of French Doors to the Veranda

An open and thoughtfully designed floor plan utilizes every square foot well. The core of the home houses the public spaces, including the great room with a fireplace and the breakfast nook, which adjoins the kitchen. A study and formal dining room flank the foyer. The master suite occupies the entire left wing of the house and features a tray ceiling in the bedroom and dual walk-in closets, while two additional bedrooms reside on the right side.
