The Howard Hughes Corporation® has announced that the first resident has moved into Parkland Village at Bridgeland®, the master planned community in northwest Houston.

Rosemary Gray moved into her new Lennar home in early November. She selected the Travertine II floor plan and shares the home with her son and his three Chihuahuas. “We’ve lived in master planned communities before, but we really like the park atmosphere,” she said. Gray’s new home sits right across from a lake, and Gray said she enjoys walking the community’s nature trails and basking in the beauty of the trees.

Gray and her family will also be the first residents honored at Parkland 100 at Settlers Park, where it was announced that a total of 100 trees will be planted with special plaques honoring each of the first 100 families to call Parkland Village their new home.

“The planning and design of Parkland Village was years in the making,” said Heath Melton, vice president of Master Planned Communities. “It’s wonderful to see our first residents start to move into the village. We’re looking forward to welcoming even more new Bridgeland residents in the coming months.”

Home builders announced for Parkland Village include Beazer Homes, Chesmar Homes, Coventry Homes, Darling Homes, David Weekley Homes, Highland Homes, Lennar, M/I Homes, Newmark Homes, Perry Homes, Ravenna Homes, Taylor Morrison, Trendmaker Homes, Village Builders and Westin Homes. Beazer Homes became the first home builder to debut at Parkland Village when the builder’s newest model opened in September. Several additional builders will join later this year, with Parkland Village’s grand opening scheduled for early Spring 2018.

Based on the overall concept of living within a park, Parkland Village continues Bridgeland’s theme of sustainable development and draws from both the Prairie School style of architecture and urban land planning successes such as the Emerald Necklace in Boston. The new village will carry forward Bridgeland’s focus on community and neighborhood connections, maintaining the overall theme of locating a park no more than a quarter-mile from every home in the community.

The linear park systems of Parkland Village will provide pedestrian access to school, invite families to linger longer outside and create natural gathering places for neighbors to host weekend parties.

Serving as a transitional space between Lakeland Village and the new Parkland Village will be Bridgeland’s latest amenity, Josey Lake. Designed as a recreational hub for the two villages, the 140-acre lake system, with grassy meadow-like plantings forming its perimeter, will include a kayak pavilion, main pavilion, event lawn and observational birding tower. Parkland Village will connect to Josey Lake through two pedestrian tunnels that will open out onto the lake ecosystem.

Parkland Village is the second of four planned villages at Bridgeland. Each village will offer its own unique take on living in the community, but conservation and co-existence with the surrounding environment will be a top priority for all. Each village will offer residents easy access to parks and trails, playgrounds, pool complexes, schools, shopping, employment establishments and places of worship.
