Ebay, the Mecca, of e-auction commerce sells timeshares and cars with great success. Now builders can sell homes at Ebay Real Estate. By Christina B. Farnsworth

Buyers may find their new homes just a click away at Ebay Real Estate (http://pages.ebay.com/realestate).

Ebay Real Estate operates five real estate categories: residential, timeshare, land, commercial, and other. Residential offers four categories: all homes, existing homes, foreclosures, and new homes. Some homes are straight listings; others are up for auction.

When BUILDER checked in May, there were more than 12,000 real estate listings, Beazer Homes alone had more than 1,500 homes listed but American Heritage had only 16. That will go even higher in June when Builder Homesite Inc., the consortium of home builders that also operates its own Web site at www.newhomesource.com, lists thousands of consortium members’ homes online. Consortium members include: American Heritage, Beazer Homes, Coventry Homes, David Weekley Homes, Hammonds Homes, KB Home, Pioneer Homes, and Plantation Homes. These companies and Ebay made the first “in-demand homes” auction June 15-24.

Ebay new-home postings feature model home photos, architectural renderings, floor plans, maps, community information, and property descriptions. Ebay Real Estate will include an online library of “how-to” articles, especially geared to first-time home buyers.
