House Painting(s)

I love paintings of buildings,so I really enjoyed seeing some of Edward Hopper’s famous house paintings next to current photos of their subjects. That made me think of my friend and cycling buddy Linden Frederick, whose paintings often include architecture. Like Hopper, Linden paints his buildings as characters. Equally satisfying–to me anyway–is his meticulous rendering of perspective and architectural detail (not surprising, perhaps, since he’s the son of a carpenter). Many of Linden’s subjects, including the painting shown here, “Grange,” are otherwise anonymous buildings in and around Belfast, Maine. Maybe someday we’ll run a side-by-side story on them. –B.D.S.
