BUILDER’s premier lists of the top 200 builders in the country, the BUILDER 100 and the Next 100, are set to be released next week. In light of that, we are counting down each day with some facts and figures gleaned from the data.
During the down years of the recession, companies fell off of the BUILDER 100/Next 100 list because of problems–usually because they went out of business. But as the market improved, mergers and acquisitions claimed more members of the BUILDER 100 and Next 100.
Though the pace of M&A may have slowed in 2015, mergers and acquisitions claimed several prominent builders, including Orleans, which was No. 57 on last year’s list. The largest names to leave the BUILDER 100, though, were Ryland and Standard Pacific. Those builders weren’t swallowed up by a competitor. Instead, they combined to form CalAtlantic, which will appear on the list for the first time when it is released next week.
Two other builders that departed our list this year were Charlotte, N.C.-based Bonterra, which was sold to A/V Homes and Acadia, which was sold to Taylor Morrison.
