Bennett Hofford Construction Chosen to Build Next PATH Concept Home

1 MIN READ

The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development’s (HUD) Partnership for Advancing Technology in Housing (PATH) will build its second Concept Home near Charleston, S.C., and the organization has chosen custom builder Bennett Hofford Construction of Charleston to build the house.

The house will be located within a 6,000-acre nature conservation community called Poplar Grove, part of the Greater Charleston Ashley River Preservation District, and will have views of a protected marsh area. A design charette has already taken place to develop Concept Home Charleston’s design and floor plan, and construction is scheduled to begin in Spring 2008.

PATH’s Concept Homes emphasize flexibility of systems to meet the specific needs of occupants. The houses are designed and built around six principles: flexible floor plans; organized and accessible systems; improved production processes; alternative basic materials; standardization of measurements and component interfaces; and integrated functions.
