The Cultural Landscape Foundation is hosting a series of Garden Dialogues, or small group garden tours, all over the country in June and July. Maybe there’s one in your city or town.
The Garden Dialogues taking place here in Washington, DC, on June 9th and 10th, sound enticing. The first (below, left) is at a house designed by architect Richard Williams, FAIA, with landscape architecture by Gregg Bleam. It’s a rare opportunity to get to see a private residence (the exterior, at least) and garden designed by two professionals at the top of their game. Williams has won numerous residential architect design awards, in addition to many other honors, and Bleam’s record is similarly strong.
The June 10th tour should be just as appealing. It’s of a pair of urban gardens (below, right) designed by landscape architect Richard Arentz and architect Olvia Demetriou, FAIA. I’ve seen in person a residential landscape designed by Arentz (at Running Cedar, on which he collaborated with Richard Williams– small world!) and it was amazing– like entering a private world you don’t want to leave. Demetriou has designed some of Washington’s best-known restaurants.
