Pitching a Winning Strike

Royce builders teams with Houston Astros for local charities.

TO CELEBRATE 20 YEARS OF BUILDING IN the Houston area, Royce Builders teamed up with the Houston Astros for the upcoming season in a special promotion that benefits two local charities. For every strikeout thrown by an Astros pitcher this year in Minute Maid Park, Royce will donate $50 to the Astros in Action Foundation and roycebuilders.com’s Foundation for Youth. As of the end of April, the Astros pitching staff had thrown 86 strikeouts, which earned $4,300 in the first month of the season for the two charities. The builder has placed a “K” counter and fund tabulator on its Web site.

The proceeds for each strikeout go directly from the pitcher’s mound to local John Speer, president of Royce Builders, left, and Hall of Fame announcer Milo Hamilton charities, says Royce. The roycebuilders.com Foundation for Youth is a nonprofit organization dedicated to providing scholarship funds for outstanding students graduating from school districts within the Houston area. Scholarships are awarded based upon academic achievement, financial need, commitment to a college education, involvement in school and community activities, and career goals. The Astros in Action is dedicated to enhancing life in the community through educational, health, and spiritual endeavors. It supports nonprofit organizations or programs related to literacy, education/scholarships, health issues, faith-based organizations, and reviving baseball in the inner city.
