For 25 years, stained glass artisan Larry Etzen has worked to perfect his craft in stained glass windows, lighting fixtures, and ceiling domes. “My specialty is in the fabrication of custom dome ceilings,” says Etzen, “and it has taken years of experience to get to the point where I can do this.”
Using traditional stained glass techniques and materials obtained from a manufacturer that has been making art glass for more than 100 years, Etzen creates custom ceiling domes for residences across the country. Taking into account the scale of the home, he also strives to echo the home’s architectural style and its décor. The domes’ structural steel frames are based on original pieces that Etzen found through research; each piece is secured to a home’s attic ceiling by cables for security.
His focus as an artist is on color. “It’s always my goal to get the most out of the glass. I try to push what I do to get the most visual, three-dimensional look.” Etzen frequently will use more than five different shades of glass in one element of a design to achieve differing effects of light and depth. 816.523.3978.
