Andrew Cuomo

The current governor of New York and former HUD secretary has a solid background in residential development. He founded Housing Enterprise for the Less Privileged (H.E.L.P.) in 1986, which has grown to become one of the country’s largest private providers of transitional housing for the homeless. The organization provides education, job training, treatment for drug and alcohol abuse, mental health services, and emergency and transitional housing to help homeless people turn their lives around and become self-supporting.

Cuomo also worked as head of the New York City Commission on the Homeless before serving as HUD secretary under Bill Clinton from 1997 to 2001.
