Bike Trail Bonus

1 MIN READ

Here’s a new, positive spin on putting in infrastructure for new housing: Plan bike paths to follow excavation for sewer lines. Spurred on by biking advocates, local officials in Tyrone Township, Mich., are considering making the most of planned sewer upgrades by adding bike trails along the lines. Proponents note that because sewer installation already requires removal of trees and brush, the cost of adding a trail would be minimal to the township. And the town doesn’t have to purchase the land. As a bonus, the decision may also help mitigate local objections about potential damage caused during excavation.
