After receiving initial attention via a KickStarter campaign, the first flying camera that integrates into smartphones will soon be available nationwide.
The pocket-sized AirSelfie will start delivery in May but consumers can pre-order the camera now. Buyers have two packages to choose from with prices ranging from $261 to $272.
A simple-to-use alternative to drone photography, AirSelfie debuted on Kickstarter and reached its fundraising goal in the first 72 hours. Comprised of four propellers and a five-megapixel video camera, it can fly vertically up to 66 feet, allowing users to take aerial photos of people or buildings. The device connects to most smartphones, including iPhone (6, 6s, 7 and 7 Plus), Google Pixel and Samsung Galaxy S7 Edge. It includes self-generated WiFi and comes equipped with a rechargeable battery through a cell phone case, as well as the option to purchase an external power bank. Additionally, a vibration-absorbtion system and in-flight stability systems guarantee stable, clear, flowing images.
“People have the impression that flying cameras are costly, difficult to operate and unwieldy,” says co-founder Edoardo Stroppiana. “AirSelfie redefines the space with a device that’s small, light and easy to use.”
