Not far from our nation’s capital, John Laing Homes (JLH) is hyped up from sales success. In Northern Virginia and Maryland, JLH is successfully recruiting move-up buyers with traditional Arts and Crafts elevations. At Rose Hill, located between North Potomac and historic Rockville, Md., large classic homes are set among curving streets and cul-de-sacs, styled with vintage lampposts and inviting sidewalks. A formal entrance to the best-selling William Morris model has buyers flocking to the two-story, three-level brick home. They love its up-to-date spiral staircase and its contemporary bonus spaces.
“Thirty percent of our buyers are professionals from D.C.,” says Eric Hansen, sales manager for the Rose Hill community, where the Morris model is a sellout. “People like the spiral staircase and love the detached garage. Those are hard to find in this price range.”
Patricia Leader, company vice president, says the continuity of the design, from curb appeal to interior details that include hand-milled molding, is also a wow factor with buyers. “Move-up and empty-nester buyers alike fell in love with the large master suite and the lower-level basement. Nearly half the buyers finish out the lower levels as recreation rooms,” she says.
