House Sales Gain

March new-home sales make a small jump but are still well below 2006 totals.

Sales of new, single-family homes in March rose 2.6 percent from February’s revised total (836,000 units). New homes were sold at a seasonally adjusted annual rate of 858,000 units according to the latest report of estimates released jointly by the U.S. Census Bureau and the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD).

Although March sales “rebounded,” they are still 23.5 percent lower than March 2006’s total (1,121,000 units). The report also gives the median sales price at $254,000 and the average sales price at $330,900.
