From solar-powered production houses to high-performance retrofits, some of the nation’s most energy-efficient homes and their builders were honored last week as winners of the 2012 EnergyValue Housing Awards (EVHA).
The annual award, administered by the NAHB Research Center to challenge builders to elevate standards for energy-efficient construction and foster the adoption of energy-efficiency principles, recognized companies that voluntarily incorporate energy efficiency into all aspects of new-home or retrofit construction by utilizing products and technologies such as solar power and hot water, ultra-efficient building techniques, and energy-saving appliances. The winners were announced during the International Builders’ Show in Orlando, Fla.
Nexus EnergyHomes, a Maryland-based start-up builder that specializes in producing net-zero energy homes, was recognized as the Builder of the Year, and Ferrier Custom Builders, a Ft. Worth, Texas-based company specializing in high-efficiency custom houses, received EVHA’s Remodeler of the Year award. Stitt Energy Systems, based in Rogers, Ark., captured the People’s Choice award after getting the most online votes prior to the awards ceremony.
