The International Code Council (ICC) has introduced the Value of the Code Official toolkit, a new online resource to help builders, government officials, and other industry professionals promote awareness and educate the industry about the importance of building safety and code standards, and the role that the codes and code officials who inspect structures play in the community.
The Value of the Code Official toolkit includes:
- Talking points that help build awareness for the work that code officials do and their impact on communities;
- Presentation slides with notes for the presenter;
- A flyer for electronic and print distribution;

The new resources come at a time when resiliency is more important than ever as natural disasters like Hurricanes Harvey and Irma and the California wildfires continue to destroy homes and buildings. The ICC says structures constructed in accordance with updated building codes are more likely to withstand disasters, saving lives and reducing the cost and time needed for rebuilding.
“In the wake of the recent destructive hurricane season and widespread California wildfires, we continue to highlight the critical role of the code official in creating safe buildings and resilient communities,” says Code Council Board President Jay Elbettar, P.E.
With an impending labor crisis in the construction industry and the need for workers at an all time high, the toolkit also hopes to encourage students and young professionals to join the workforce.
