Colorado State University (CSU)’s Institute for the Built Environment is adding two continuing education programs to its fall 2009 semester lineup: the Green Homes Certificate Program and the Green Building Certificate Program. Both are geared to home builders, designers, architects, energy engineers, real estate professionals, developers, homeowners, and others interested in green home building and remodeling.
The 13-week Green Homes Certificate Program will focus on residential sustainable building strategies and tools (including LEED for Homes, Built Green, and Energy Star), giving graduates a working knowledge of the basic principles and disciplines of green building. Topics will include site and home design, energy-efficient envelopes, high-performance HVAC systems, indoor environmental quality, active renewable energy systems, natural home building techniques, construction waste recycling, deconstruction, and more. The program begins September 16; students who register by September 2 will save $100 on the $1,695 tuition. Classes will be held at CSU’s Loveland Learning Center in Loveland, Colo.
Targeted to working professionals in the home building industry, the 12-week Green Building Certificate Program focuses on sustainable building design within the context of the LEED rating system. It’s designed to address both residential and commercial green building principles, and includes an interactive design charrette. Different industry experts will lead each session of the course. The program begins September 8; register by August 25 for a $100 discount on the $1,795 tuition. Classes will be held at CSU’s Denver Learning Center in Denver.
