CUSTOM HOME’s Directions 2009 Virtual Conference launched on December 8 and continues to roll out free, on-demand Web sessions to help you hone your skills, broaden your company’s scope, and prime your business for success.
Presented by ecological builder Kevin Stack, LEED Faculty, of Northeast Natural Homes in Syracuse, N.Y., “The High-Performance House: Separating the greenwashing hype from best practices in building science,” launched on December 15.
Stack shares the sustainability lessons his company has learned from working with homes old and new in and around Syracuse, chief among them is that many of the best practices of the past remain best practices for today’s sustainable, energy-efficient construction. Using case studies of his company’s projects, Stack explains that the home building and building science industries “have the ability and the knowledge to create homes that live in harmony with nature; that sequester more carbon than they produce; and are a part of the environment, not apart from the environment.”
