The Ply Gem Home for Good Project has partnered with Greater Cleveland Habitat for Humanity and with country music star Lauren Alaina to provide five families with revitalized single-family homes in Cleveland, Ohio’s District 4.

The Home for Good Project, led by Ply Gem in support of Habitat for Humanity, donated the products and resources necessary to renovate the once-abandoned homes. Construction was completed over the course of one week in late July, and the homes were dedicated and presented to five local families alongside Cleveland city officials in a ceremony on July 31st.

Over 7,000 abandoned properties have appeared in Greater Cleveland over the past five years, according to the Home for Good Project. Revitalizing these vacant properties – rather than tearing them down and building new – allows for twice the number of newly-revitalized homes, lowers costs for builders and buyers, raises neighborhood values, and creates safer communities.

This effort has also expanded the supply of affordable housing in the greater Cleveland area, where a family of four earning 30% of the area median income ($20,000-$52,000) can expect to spend more than 50% of their monthly earnings on housing. This cost-burden leaves very few resources for basic needs, and keeps home ownership out of reach.

“At Ply Gem, we are dedicated to addressing the affordable housing crisis that’s affecting hundreds of families across the U.S. through our Home for Good Project,” said Gary E. Robinette, Chairman and CEO. “With the help of Habitat for Humanity and Lauren Alaina, five Cleveland families can now experience the pride and joy of homeownership.”

The Home for Good project has provided nearly $2 million in products and resources for almost 500 new or renovated homes in more than 70 U.S. communities since 2016.
