Kitchen and bath fixture manufacturer Kohler Co. last month began an Internet campaign dedicated to teaching homeowners how to conserve water, pledging up to $1 million worth of plumbing products to build sustainable homes for Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI), a nonprofit organization that builds houses for people in need.
On SaveWaterAmerica.com, consumers can find water-conservation tips, information about water-saving products, and rebates for high-efficiency models. For every site visitor who answers a brief three-question quiz, Kohler will donate an additional $1 on top of the $500,000 already committed to Habitat. The donation will go toward building nearly 600 sustainable homes using Kohler plumbing products, including high-efficiency toilets and faucets that use 30 percent less water without affecting performance.
“Kohler recognizes the looming freshwater shortage facing the United States, and that saving water inside the home represents the best opportunity for a family to make a significant difference in their water consumption,” said John Engberg, manager of global media and Web development at Kohler, in a statement about the new campaign. Kohler is the first recipient of the WaterSense Manufacturing Partner of Year Award, a program sponsored by the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency that seeks to conserve water supplies for future generations.
